{"abstract":"This study developed and evaluated a course module in Purposive Communication for freshmen college students at National University Fairview during the 2023-2024 school year. The research identified lessons from the course syllabus for module development, compared evaluations from instructors and expert respondents on the module's course learning outcomes (CLOs), lesson content, processing tasks/questions, and assessment tasks, and gathered improvement suggestions. A descriptive research design was used, with data collected from 15 Purposive Communication instructors and 15 expert respondents, all holding relevant master's degrees or equivalent. Weighted means and independent sample t-tests were employed for data analysis. The developed module included lessons on communication processes, principles, ethics, globalization, local and global communication in multicultural settings, language varieties and registers, evaluating messages/images, communication aids and strategies, and communication for various and academic purposes. Instructors and expert respondents rated the module with grand weighted mean ratings of 3.92 and 3.81, respectively, both interpreted as Very Strongly Agree. No significant difference was found between the two groups' evaluations across the criteria, with p-values of 0.05, 0.14, 0.20, and 0.29, all exceeding the 5% significance level. Comments and suggestions for module improvement were also noted.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Jun Kevin Pedrosa","Mary Jean DelaPeña"],"date":"2024-08-07","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.13256654","id":3364,"issue":3,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"a1b26e69e78a45db46509ad47a5871836183ae04745b7c8329485a96e5d28a48","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Course Module in Purposive Communication for Freshmen College Students","volume":23}
