{"abstract":"This study explores the psychological well-being of people living with HIV (PLHIV), focusing on their lived experiences, challenges, and coping mechanisms. HIV can be acquired through bodily fluids, shared syringes, breastfeeding, or sexual intercourse, and significantly impacts individuals' lives. Using Thematic Analysis, the research revealed several key findings. Firstly, discrimination and misconceptions are prevalent in the Philippines, particularly towards gay individuals, who are often wrongly assumed to have contracted HIV, negatively impacting their well-being. Secondly, PLHIV experience anxiety and depression related to their HIV status, often leading to overthinking and distress. They also face struggles with services and finances, including laboratory diagnoses, transit for care access, and limited healthcare availability. Lastly, despite these challenges, PLHIV employ coping strategies, with advocacy proving particularly helpful in understanding and accepting their HIV status. They also distance themselves from negativity to protect their emotional and mental health.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Franz Cedrick Yapo","Arabelle Villanueva","Josie Lynn Pariñas","Justin Joshua Godoy","Micaiah Andrea Lopez","Jayra Blanco","Ken Andrei Torrero","Jhoselle Tus"],"date":"2024-07-13","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.12735739","id":3216,"issue":1,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"5276a22a5c5475e2f7c449c233f07086a3f87dc8876a7b3239ce17a3b55beca2","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Don’t Cry, Don’t Die: A Case Study Exploring the Psychological Well-being of People Living with HIV","volume":22}
