{"abstract":"This study assessed the reading comprehension skills of Grade 6 pupils during the School Year 2022-2023, examining their profile, encountered reading problems, and level of reading comprehension skills. The study also determined the relationship between pupil profiles and reading comprehension skills, with the output being a program of activities for teachers. Findings indicated that Grade 6 learners were younger, predominantly female, from middle socio-economic backgrounds, with parents who had not completed secondary education or obtained a degree, and with either one or both parents working. Learners had parental supervision and regular study habits. Reading problems were still developing, focusing on basic understanding and meaning-making in fluency, vocabulary, background knowledge, and comprehension strategies, with lack of self-motivation, background knowledge, and text comprehension being primary issues. Vocabulary knowledge was developing. Parental supervision and good study habits influenced reading comprehension. The study recommended that teachers provide resources aligned with learners' demographic backgrounds, such as culturally relevant texts, and that interactive materials be developed to address reading concerns.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Cloeyline DelaRosa","Dr. Jeger P.
