{"abstract":"This study examined and classified the Illocutionary Speech Acts employed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in his 2022 and 2023 State of the Nation Addresses (SONAs) using Searle's five classifications. The research utilized the Discourse Analysis Method, grounded in Austin and Searle's Speech Act Theory, through analysis, categorization, and assessment. The study focused exclusively on the 2022 and 2023 SONAs. Results showed that in the 2022 SONA, out of 294 utterances, President Marcos Jr. most dominantly used Assertive Illocutionary acts 197 times. In the 2023 SONA, he again spoke most dominantly in the Assertive Illocutionary 222 out of 283 utterances. The least used classification in both SONAs was Declaration, accounting for only 1 utterance out of 294 in 2022 and 1 out of 283 in 2023. This implies the President's main intention in both SONAs was to Assert, presenting information, facts, plans, statements, and opinions, despite using Commissives, Expressives, Directives, and Declarations. The study concludes that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is an Assertive Speaker.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Mick Danielle Agagon","Jerahlyn Nodalo","Aris Pet Angeli Suarez","Genesis Naparan"],"date":"2024-05-19","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.11216984","id":2938,"issue":1,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"dd95669cd61e0459f408963fba2bf1f887f71cb3ded1ed22ad51c43390bcfc69","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Illocutionary Speech Acts used by President Ferdinand R.
