{"abstract":"This quantitative-correlation study with a pre-test and post-test design identified the reading comprehension level of Senior High School learners using Barrett’s Taxonomy of Reading Comprehension (literal, reorganization, inferential, evaluation, and appreciation) and determined the significant relationship in their comprehension levels when reading subtitles of selected movies. Purposively chosen Senior High School learners participated, and data were gathered using a validated, pilot-tested, researcher-made pre-test and post-test instrument after playing subtitled movies. Data were analyzed using SPSS for normality and Spearman's rho non-parametric test. Findings revealed that learners attained an outstanding qualitative index in all subcomponents of comprehension when reading movie subtitles, but there was no relationship between these subcomponents. An informational material was developed and recommended for classifying comprehension levels in reading movie subtitles. It is recommended that movie subtitles be used to achieve outstanding comprehension across all subcomponents, and that movies with high-quality content, visuals, and relevant subtitles be selected. Teachers should vary activities adhering to Barrett’s Taxonomy and create specific guidelines for using movie subtitles in lesson plans. School heads and curriculum developers should create local policies for using and developing subtitled movies across various subjects.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Arnilene Francia","Mikael Sandino Andrey"],"date":"2024-05-15","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.11194500","id":2921,"issue":9,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"88c1e97b15500722bd84458bfe873d2e2f016afd8c2797dc23e25a13a01bf5e6","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Senior High School Learners’ Reading Comprehension Level on Select Subtitled Movies","volume":19}
