{"abstract":"This study investigated and compared the maternal perception of early adult and teen mothers regarding postpartum blues and depression. A descriptive research design was employed, with 40 teen and adult mothers from Brgy. Sarmiento, Parang, Maguindanao del Norte, selected via purposive sampling. The modified Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire (Brekington et al., 2001) and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (Cox et al., 1987) were used. Results indicated that teen mothers had an overall mean of 2.9 for postpartum bonding, denoting “quite often” good bonding, while adult mothers had a mean of 3.5, indicating “very often” very positive bonding. Both groups experienced postpartum blues. A significant difference was found between the groups (t = 2.0134, df = 46, p-value = 1.679 < 0.05), showing early adult mothers had higher positive postpartum bonding behavior. Furthermore, 70% of teen mothers experienced depression, with 30% having suicidal thoughts. In contrast, 50% of early adult mothers did not experience depression or suicidal thoughts, while 30% had depression and 20% had suicidal thoughts. The study concludes that early adult mothers exhibit higher positive postpartum bonding behavior and are less likely to experience depression and suicidal thinking compared to teen mothers.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Alnoury Cauring","Angel Nicole DelaPeṅa","James Leuterio"],"date":"2024-05-07","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.11123402","id":2886,"issue":7,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"ec2e88874872cb7d35196f9140c7447715e093beba9bb41be7d7ddc1b6173e0c","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Maternal Perception of the Teen and Early Adult Mothers on the Postpartum Blues and Depression","volume":19}
