{"abstract":"This study investigated the effects of heterogeneous grouping on the academic performance of 550 randomly selected grade three pupils from Sta. Cruz Elementary School during the 2019-2020 school year. Utilizing a descriptive survey design with a researcher-made questionnaire and documentary analysis of average grades, the study described pupils by sex, sibling position, monthly family income, number of children, and parents’ educational attainment. Findings revealed pupils were predominantly female, first or third children, from low-income families, and often only children with college undergraduate parents. Heterogeneous grouping significantly affected pupils' intellectual ability, study habits, emotional stability, and social relations. Significant differences in the perceived effects of heterogeneous grouping were found when grouped by monthly family income, number of children, and parents’ educational attainment, but not by sex or sibling position. Pupils demonstrated very satisfactory academic performance. A significant correlation existed between the perceived effects of heterogeneous grouping and academic performance. The study concluded that monthly family income, number of children, and parents’ educational attainment are significant factors in the perceived effects of heterogeneous grouping, which is related to academic performance. Recommendations included information dissemination to parents, tailoring classroom rules to heterogeneous grouping, exposing pupils to meaningful learning activities, and encouraging pupils to identify learning preferences.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Marissa Velasquez"],"date":"2024-04-19","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.10999080","id":2818,"issue":2,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"0774d0e99445605066b82d5e73d13b387cb5b8064c94c60df62f76e6d9d8bae7","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Effects of Heterogeneous Grouping on the Academic Performance of Grade Three Pupils in Sta.
