{"abstract":"This study investigated the extent of leadership styles practiced by academic heads and its relationship to faculty members' work motivation and organizational commitment in selected private higher education institutions in Metro Manila. Using a descriptive-correlational research design, data were collected from 36 academic heads and 120 faculty members via survey questionnaires. Findings indicated that both groups perceived the academic heads' practice of autocratic, democratic, laissez-faire, transactional, and transformational leadership styles as very high, with no significant difference in their perceptions. Faculty members' levels of intrinsic and extrinsic work motivation were perceived as high by both groups, though a significant difference existed in perceptions of intrinsic motivation. Organizational commitment (affective, continuance, and normative) was also perceived as high by both groups, with no significant difference in their perceptions. A significant relationship was found between the academic heads’ leadership styles and faculty members’ work motivation and organizational commitment. The study proposed a leadership framework to enhance faculty members’ work motivation and organizational commitment.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Ruby Vargas"],"date":"2024-02-27","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.10713526","id":2596,"issue":6,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"133923ee015d19225d94c2b7b5cd023425dde7a84fd5168bcf1f3f58b2df6e8c","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Leadership Style of Academic Heads in Private Higher Education Institutions as Correlate of Work Motivation and Organizational Commitment of Faculty Members","volume":17}
