The study specifically assessed performance in listening (stress and intonation), speaking (vowel/consonant sounds, pitch levels), reading (comprehension, reading style), writing (purposes, sequencing sentences), and viewing (meaning of signs/symbols, structural analysis). A teacher-made test, based on K-12 Curriculum Guide competencies, consisted of 50 items, with 10 items per skill. The findings revealed that performance in listening, speaking, and reading was “did not meet expectations.” Performance in writing was “fairly satisfactory,” while viewing was “very satisfactory.” Overall performance across all five skills was “fairly satisfactory.” Learners performed best in viewing and worst in reading. The study concluded that Grade 7 learners are proficient viewers but have very poor performance in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
