{"abstract":"This phenomenological qualitative study investigated the challenges, stressors, coping mechanisms, and self-assessed productivity of 20 public elementary school teachers in the District of Cuartero, Schools Division of Capiz, in the new normal education. Data were collected through in-depth interviews using a researcher-made guide, conducted face-to-face, via phone calls, and other communication platforms. Responses were transcribed, thematized, coded, and analyzed using thematic analysis. Teachers faced challenges including coping with the current situation, difficulty with students, assessment, overwork, lack of resources, home visitations, learning difficulties, module preparation, teaching parents, adapting to technology, non-supportive parents, boredom, loneliness, and poor internet connectivity. Coping mechanisms involved setting priorities, reconnecting with others, wise time management, and asking for help. Teachers desired materials, mental health training, connection with nature, shared responsibilities, and additional manpower. Self-assessed productivity revealed two major themes: dissatisfaction based on pupil progress and high satisfaction from personal effort and resilience. Psychosocial support programs for teachers in the new normal highlighted provision of resources, wellness programs, and innovation. Based on teacher suggestions, a training plan on psychosocial wellness for teachers was developed as an output of this study.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Jyves Bulquerin"],"date":"2023-08-07","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.8220986","id":1760,"issue":9,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"db59b13e67eb041d58fd77269b37826bdddad3140c7e78ef2a391d663e6c5f22","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Paradigm Shift in Teaching: The Plight of Teachers, Coping Mechanisms and Productivity in the New Normal as Basis for Psychosocial Support","volume":11}
