{"abstract":"This study employed an embedded mixed-methods research design to determine the relationship between the demographic profile, assessment practices of senior high school (SHS) mathematics teachers, and students’ test performance in mathematics. The study found that SHS mathematics teachers generally demonstrated clear, visible, and observable assessment practices across all subscales, implying effective classroom assessment. However, students exhibited poor test performance in mathematics, indicating a need for enhanced understanding or application of mathematical concepts, a finding corroborated by key informant interviews. No significant differences were found in teachers' assessment practices when grouped by demographic profile. Student test performance showed no significant differences based on sex and junior high school of origin but did show a significant difference by section, as confirmed by key informants. Furthermore, no significant association was found between teachers' assessment practices and students’ test performance in mathematics across all subscales, except for the “responsive” subscale. This relationship was stronger in classrooms with lower average formative assessment performance. The study concluded that several factors contribute to mathematics assessment outcomes, recommending clear objectives, continuous assessment, timely feedback, self-assessment, peer evaluation, targeted interventions, reflective practices, professional development, and a supportive classroom climate to improve test performance.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Paul Melcar Paglomutan","Roxanne Cabarubias","Rowena Valdesimo","Richard Lachica"],"date":"2023-07-15","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.8148805","id":1604,"issue":8,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"9cc1a7d12192ce539795075e6cd42417b55ddb6c3a5709d94969fc8f4f8348f7","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Assessment Practices of Senior High School Mathematics Teachers in Relation to Students’ Test Performance","volume":10}
