{"abstract":"This quasi-experimental study, employing a descriptive approach, aimed to enhance learners' performance using textbook-based and video-based instructional materials and investigated students' perceptions of these materials. It also examined pretest and posttest scores in five Bread and Pastry Production (BPP) competencies: preparing sponges and cakes, preparing and using fillings, decorating cakes, presenting cakes, and storing cakes, to determine significant performance differences between groups. Additionally, the research explored the correlation between participants' second-quarter academic achievement and their perception of the instructional materials' effectiveness. Forty Grade 11 students, enrolled in the BPP specialization for the 2022-2023 school year, were selected via purposive sampling and divided into two cohorts: one received textbook-based instruction, and the other video-based instruction. A survey instrument gathered viewpoints on the viability of instructional materials regarding subjects, object, tools, outcomes, community, rules, and division of labor. A 30-item assessment instrument evaluated academic proficiency in the five BPP competencies. The study revealed significant differences in the pretest and posttest scores of the two groups across the five competencies. However, for students under textbook-based instruction, pretest scores did not significantly differ from posttest scores, except in decorating cakes. Identical outcomes were found regarding the correlation between second-quarter achievement and perceived effectiveness of both instructional types, implying an insignificant relationship between these variables.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Karen Escobido"],"date":"2023-07-05","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.8116459","id":1586,"issue":4,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"4ac37ef340b3133f18659ec05509c78778bbbe2ae8a1c03647852ddbbbc58671","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Textbook-Based and Video-Based Instructional Material in Enhancing Learners’ Performance","volume":10}
