{"abstract":"This qualitative study investigated the challenges and coping strategies of eight teachers implementing the SPED inclusive education program in public elementary schools of the third congressional district, Division of Quezon, using a structured interview guide. The study identified learners with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Dyslexia as major types of Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSEN) handled by teachers. Common teaching strategies included visual aids, educational videos, positive reinforcement, lesson simplification, consistent routines, peer tutoring, clear instructions, written handouts, reading materials, repeated instructions, multiple examples, individualized learning, and cooperative and experimental learning. Positive reinforcement was considered the best strategy. Challenges encountered by teachers included dealing with LSEN behavioral problems, communication challenges, lack of parental involvement, lack of materials, and chronic absenteeism. Coping strategies used were differentiated instructions, emotional understanding, professional development, positive instructions, being relaxed, and seeking assistance and encouragement. Emotional understanding was identified as the best coping strategy. Based on these findings, an intervention program was developed to support the implementation of SPED inclusive education programs.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Catlyn Quizana","Melchor Espiritu"],"date":"2023-06-10","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.8025799","id":1454,"issue":6,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"bab41e0218ac3cf327cd8c427d50efe44258d6b158e60c5185de3c1b06cc2e0f","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Challenges Encountered and Coping Strategies Used by Teachers in Implementing SPED Inclusive Education Program in Public Elementary Schools of Third Congressional District, Division of Quezon","volume":9}
