{"abstract":"This study investigated the effects of parental engagement and nurturance on the reading performance of 370 intermediate pupils (118 Grade 4, 78 Grade 5, 174 Grade 6) in Sta. Cruz Elementary School during the 2020-2021 school year, utilizing a descriptive survey research design. Respondents were characterized by age, sex, sibling position, family size, monthly income, and parents’ educational attainment. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire-checklist assessing parental engagement and nurturance effects on inferential, critical thinking, assimilation, and comprehension, and a 40-item objective reading test. Findings indicated most pupils were 8-10 years old, predominantly male, first or second-born, from families with two children and monthly incomes below ₱10,000, and whose parents were mostly college undergraduates. Parental engagement and nurturance moderately affected reading performance across all assessed areas. Sex, sibling position, family size, monthly income, and father’s educational attainment did not significantly influence these effects, though mother’s educational attainment showed significance regarding comprehension. Pupils demonstrated satisfactory reading performance. No significant relationship was found between the extent of parental engagement and nurturance effects and overall reading performance.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Serlita Francia Aranda"],"date":"2023-05-17","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.7946409","id":1263,"issue":9,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"5e9ee982dcf939fc6a15fc8425cadb02cb34876172ceff2770316ff9697c5be2","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Parental Engagement and Nurturance on the Reading Performance of Intermediate Pupils in Sta.
