{"abstract":"This study evaluated the reading skills and comprehension performance of 420 seventh-grade students and the effectiveness of contextualized learning materials. Using a descriptive-quantitative research method with an experimental design, data were collected over 1 month and 2 weeks in the first quarter of the academic year 2022–2023. IBM SPSS was used for data interpretation, with frequency and percentage for reading comprehension performance levels (independent, instructional, frustrated, non-readers), weighted mean for comprehension level, and a paired t-test for analysis at a significance level (α) of 0.05. Results showed that the learners' reading comprehension level in the pretest was above average (m = 11.75, SD = 4.16), improving to \"outstanding\" in the posttest (m = 16.48, SD = 4.97). A significant difference was found between pretest and posttest reading performance levels (t-value = 9.1864; p-value = 0.000), with a mean score difference of 4.73. The study concluded that contextualized teaching and learning, particularly with contextualized learning resources, can improve reading comprehension and skills.","abstract_source":"gemini_shortened","authors":["Janice Sambayon","Danica Luceñara","Crisanta Luceñara","Queennie Bayron","Romnick Peñaloga","Emelyn Larombe"],"date":"2023-03-06","doi":"10.5281/zenodo.7702258","id":1062,"issue":6,"journal":{"issn":"2822-4353","name":"Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal"},"pdf_sha256":"2d43803dc9f63e3a22d1a45dadfb8bc0abdf81f9fd444994099e70f66183c909","schema":"scimatic-article/1","title":"Effectiveness of Contextualized Learning Materials in Improving the Reading Skills and Comprehension Level of the Students","volume":7}
