Abstract

This study focuses on President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s speech regarding his response to the death threats against Vice President Duterte in her press briefing. The study employed a qualitative method anchored in rhetorical analysis to explore the strategies in the speech, focusing on pathos, ethos, and logos, which examine the emotional appeal, logical appeal, and credibility of the language in persuasive communication. This also includes describing the rhetorical situation of the speech, detailing the audience, the speaker, the purpose, the context, the medium of the text, and the claim. To corroborate the findings during the analysis and description, an evaluation is conducted to explain how the effectiveness of rhetorical strategies affects the entire rhetorical situation. The findings revealed that rhetorical strategies are present in the speech. The use of the corpus's three rhetorical appeals demonstrates how speech analyzes the interaction between the rhetorical situation and rhetorical tactics through language elements and rhetorical devices. President Ferdinand E. Marcos Jr. 's speech demonstrated the interplay of three rhetorical strategies that affect the effectiveness of persuasive communication in the political sphere.
