Abstract
The purpose of the study was to conduct a trend analysis on the reading proficiency level of grade six learners using the Phil-IRI test results in the selected districts in the Division of Quezon Province particularly the Gumaca East and West Districts. The data of reading proficiency level from School Year 2019-2020 to School Year 2022-2023 which covered four school years of the 285 grade six learners were analyzed to find out the trends in reading proficiency level in silent reading and oral reading both in English and Filipino. Using frequency count and percentages, the trend analysis of the data revealed that as the learners increase their level, their reading proficiency tends to increase in both English and Filipino in terms of silent reading and oral reading. In addition, using the one-way ANOVA test, the significant differences in the trends on reading proficiency significantly differ when age and socio-economic profiles are examined. In terms of sex, the study revealed that there is no significant difference in the trends on the reading proficiency of learners. Moreover, the findings of the study revealed that there is no significant difference in the trends on reading proficiency of learners using the Phil-IRI in silent and oral reading in the two districts, namely Gumaca East District and Gumaca West District. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended a strategic policy intervention allocating five percent for reading materials for empowering the 4Ps beneficiaries. The school heads should consistently monitor the policy intervention. Finally, the provided learning activities, learning materials, and assessments manifested by teachers will continue to be utilized.
